Hello! I'm Derek, the creator of Sakhams. I made this website as a place to bring together my interests in geography, maps, data, and the world around us.

How I Got Into Geography

I am a geography enthusiast and a lifelong learner. I have been fascinated by the world and how it works for as long as I can remember, and I have explored many different aspects of geography, from physical landscapes to human cultures.

About five years ago, I began creating personal projects to explore my interests in geography and data. What began as individual experiments gradually became a large collection of projects that I wanted to share with others.

My Experience With Geography

Geography has been a major part of my interests and activities over the years. Some of my experiences include:

Why I Made Sakhams

After creating personal projects for several years, I wanted somewhere to bring them together. Sakhams became a way to organize those projects into one place and make them available to anyone who might find them interesting.

I also wanted to create something that could share my enthusiasm for geography with people who may not normally encounter it. Geography can be much more than memorizing countries and capitals, and I hope the projects here can demonstrate some of that variety.

I hope Sakhams can be a place where you discover something interesting, learn something you didn't know before, or simply spend a few minutes exploring.

Not everything here is meant to be serious. Some projects are educational, some are experimental, and some exist simply because I thought they would be fun to make.
