Sakhams Resources

Resources

A collection of websites, tools, maps, and other resources that I have found useful or interesting. Note that none of these resources are affiliated with Sakhams and I do not receive any compensation for linking to them. I have included these because I think they are useful or interesting and I hope that you find them useful as well. It is important to note that some of these resource descriptions are my own opinions and experiences and may not be representative of the experiences of others.

Jetpunk

This is my favorite resource for quizzes on geography, history, and other topics. It has a wide variety of quizzes and is very user-friendly. I use this pretty much every day.

Geoguessr

Geoguessr is a fun and challenging game that drops you into a random location on Google Street View, and you have to guess where you are. It's a great way to test your geography knowledge and explore the world from your computer. If Geoguessr is not compatible with your device, you can also try plenty of free alternatives.

Seterra

Seterra is a geography quiz website that offers a variety of interactive quizzes to test your knowledge of world geography. Seterra is similar to Jetpunk, but I find it a little harder to improve since the quizzes use tapping rather than typing. However, it is still a good resource for learning geography and it is downloadable (meaning you can use it offline).

Worldle

Worldle is a geography game that gives you the outline of a country and you have to guess which country it is. It is a fun way to test your knowledge of country shapes and borders. It also has additional questions on countries and is a fun way to learn about one country every day.

Georack

Georack is a fun online geography game.

MapChart

This was the site that began my passion in creating maps. It is very user-friendly and has some of the best map templates available. I have used this site to create many of the maps on Sakhams. I would recommend this site to anyone who wants to create maps for personal use or for educational purposes and is looking for a quick and user-friendly tool. Additionally, MapChart has a showcase with plenty of interesting maps.

Datawrapper

Datawrapper is a tool for creating charts, maps, and tables. The version that has mapping tools is linked above. It is less user-friendly than MapChart, but it has more advanced features and offers a larger selection of basemaps.

QGIS

This is the downloader for QGIS. QGIS is a free and open-source geographic information system (GIS) that allows users to create, edit, visualize, analyze, and publish geospatial information. It is a powerful tool for creating maps and analyzing spatial data, but it has a steep learning curve and is not as user-friendly as MapChart or Datawrapper. However, it is a great tool for those who want to create more advanced maps and work with geospatial data in a more professional setting.

ArcGIS

ArcGIS is a geographic information system (GIS) that is similar to QGIS, but it is a commercial product developed by Esri. It is widely used in professional settings and offers a wide range of tools for creating maps and analyzing spatial data. However, it is not free and can be expensive for individual users or small organizations. It is a great tool for those who want to work with geospatial data in a professional setting and have the resources to invest in it. For those who are just starting out or want to create maps for personal use, I would recommend MapChart, Datawrapper, or QGIS instead.

Fantasy Map Generator

This tool is used to make fantasy maps. It is a fun tool to mess around with and can be used to create some interesting maps. The only concern I have with this tool is that the maps are not real world maps and this is made for fantasy maps. That can make this a fantastic tool for creative projects, but it is not useful for creating maps of real world locations.

Duolingo

Duolingo is a popular language learning platform that offers courses in a wide variety of languages. It is user-friendly and gamifies the learning process, making it fun and engaging. Duolingo is a great resource for anyone looking to learn a new language or improve their language skills. I personally used Duolingo to learn some basic German. Duolingo is a great resource for beginners looking to have an introduction to a new language.

Linguno

Linguno is a fun and interactive language learning platform that offers courses in a variety of languages. Unlike Duolingo, it prioritizes vocabulary over grammar. It is a great resource for anyone looking to increase their vocabulary in a new language. I personally used Linguno to learn thousands of words in German in a short period of time.
